The Westland has arrived, with 27 passengers and 165 immigrants, 80 days from Glasgow. One death occurred, bub no births. On 23rd March a steerage passenger name ! Wood jumped overboard. The Clan Campbell,, from London, will enter at the Customs to-day. The steamer Wellington loft yesterday at 1.30 for Picton and Nelson. TRe steamer Lyttelton arrived hero early yesterday morning from Blenheim, having left on Sunday afternoon. at 2: o’clock. She returned again yesterday afternoon. The steamer Kiwi, from the East Coast, arrived here at 7 o’clock yesterday morning. She left Napier at 5 p.m. on Saturday, and arrived at Castlepoint on Sunday at noon ; left at 2p m. for Wellington. The* surf was found to be too heavy to do any work at 'any of the intermediate ports. The steamer Ladybird arrived here yesterday morning at 5.30. The t,no statement made in Dunedin that tho Benares Fort Chalmers safely when drawing 22 feet of the Australasian Shipping News, under tho ncad of casualties, reports:—“The ship Benares, ‘from Loudon to Port Chalmers, dragged on the bar 'j,t the latter place as she was being towed in, and carried away her tow lino and tho Otago Daily Times, of 17th March reports—“ That this vessel was detained outside one day, tho bar being bad, and that on coming In she dragged across tho bar because she xvas drawing 20 foot of water.”
