(REUTER'S TELEGRAMS.) London, April 17. The latest Cape news is dated Cape Town, Ist April. It states :—A relieving force started for Ekowe yesterday, consisting of 6000 men with Gatling guns and a rocket column. The troops are in good health. On the 30th March Colonel Pearson signalled from Ekowe that 200 of the garrison were disabled, and only 500 men were effective. It is stated that 35,000 Zulus await the arrival of the Ekowe relieving force. 2000 Zulus attacked Colonel Wood's camp near Luneberg. Severe fighting ensued, lasting four hours. The enemy were repulsed. The British loss was 7 officers and 70 mtn. The Earl of Derby has seceded from the Conservative party. St. Peibbsbdeo,. April 17. The name of the would-be assassin of the Emperor of Russia is ascertained to bo Betrum Soloriff, a schoolmaster. The Emperor when replying to the congratulations presented him on bis escape, announced that extraordinary repressive measures will be instituted. Melbourne, Friday. Dr. Bryan Doyle, from New Zealand, to-day charged several women with the robbery of £llO9. The case had to be remanded owing to Doyle's intoxication in court, for which ha is to be prosecuted. Sydney, Friday. The race for the Cumberland Stakes resulted as follows ; —Chester, 1; Le Loup, 2 ; Wellington, 3. Cheater won easily by a length in 3min. 43sec. Flour is quoted at £ll 7s 6d ; wheat, at 4s ; New Zealand wheat is selling at from 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; oats, 3s 6d to 3s 9d. (SPECIAL TO PRESS AGEMCY.) Melbodeke, Friday. A special telegram to the Argus, dated London, f April 18, states that the London Times pronounces Sir Bryan O’Loghlea’a late
Gazette notice re the Argus as extraordinary. The meeting of the shareholders of the Oriental Bank unanimously adopted the report lately telegraphed, and approved the action of the directors.
