The following are the duties collected at the Customs yesterday
BY TKLmHAPII. (PER PRESS AGENCY.) AUCKLAND, Thursday. Mr. Buckland held a sheep fair at Drury yesterday. Grown stock, suitable for grazing, steady demand, at prices 5 per cent, more than at last month’s auction, except dairy cattle, which were relatively dull, Mr. Buckland's weekly report quotes:—Oats. 3s 9d to 3s lOd ; maize. 4s; barley, 3* 6d ; horse stock in smaller number and of inferior class. Messrs: Blnney and Manson report that the holidays slightly interfered with business quotations. Adelaide flour, £l3 10s to £l4 ; Southern, £lO to £ll ; wheat. 4* to 4'3d; wheat, fowls'. 3s 6d; bran and polard; £6: oats, 3s 3d to 3s 9d ; maize, 4a to 4s 3d; oatmeal, £l9 to £2O ; haras and bacon, in cloth, 8i I to BJd; do, bare, Cjd to 7id ; cheese, Bjd to B|d ; butter, Is to Is Id. Moanataiaris are quoted; Tellers, 655. Weekly Commercial.—Total imports and exports at the port of Auckland Imports. £438 418; exports, £135,720. Tl<e impOfts during the week comprise—3o sks mdt. 12.000 bshlswbcat, 14caseshams and bacon Auckland silk dressed flour, £l3; household. £ll 10s; Southern, £lO to £lO 10s; wheat, 4s ; fowls', 3s 6d; oats, 3s bd to 3s 9d ; maize, 4s to 4s 3d ; fresh butter, lid to Is; potte butter. Is to Is Id for prime. At Remuera on Thursday good dairy cattle wore In brisk r-quest; prices varied from £3 to £lO 15s. Store cattle In usual number, and better inquiry for cattle in average lot; 115 head wer yarded, and prices alvanced slightly. Good cattle were steady at 32s the 1001 b. Sheep were short of requirements, and were generally indifferent in quality, and higher by Is to 2s per head. Figs in moderate number, and lower in price. SALE OF THE TuTARA ESTATE. (per press agency.) OAMARU, Thursday. McLean; of McLean Brother , Dunedin, to day sold by auction the far-famed Totara Est te. There was a largo attendance of buyers from all parts of the colony. Maloney, £2O 10s per acre. The man ger’s residence and 872 acres round about it were withdrawn at £3O per acre, but is for sale privately. The Island Block was next submitted, but only, four sections were sold, viz., section 177, 48a 2r, Meldrum. £2O per acre; section 178, 180a-8r lOp, Calcutt, £lO per acre ; section 197, 144 a 2r Bp, Macpherson, £ls 15s per acre ; section 198, Ilia, Davis. £l3 per acre; the remainder was withdrawn at £4 lOs.per acre, but there is every probability of its being disposed of by private treaty. The town hip of Alma was then put up. with very brisk competition, the sections wo o half an acre in extent, and averaged £34 per section.
. ../MELBOURNE MARKETS. The. following. is Messrs. Goldsbrough and Co.'s report'for the week ending April 2:— Wool.—We catalogued 525 bales for our auction sale to-day, and sold 351 bales, in addition to 381 bales sold by private contract during the week, making 732 bales disposed of. Prices remain about the same. To-day we sold inferior to good greasy at from 6Jd to lOd, and scoured up to 15d per lb, the latter price.for a fair average lot. Sheepskins.—This market has been well supplied during the past week, and the attendance of .buyers was good. Wo have no change to report, the following quotations ruling for all. offering:— Butchers’ green-pelts realised up to 2s 3d each; do, dry do. Is 8d eacli; dry skins, inferior to medium, 3d to 5d per lb; do, medium to superior, 6d to 6Jd perlb. • Hides.—Wo have dis posed of an average supply at quotations. . Superior lots command attention, but inferior hides and calfskins are neglected. Towards the c’ose of the we*-k the tone of the market was rather fiat, late rates being maintained with difficulty. Wo quote:—Ox hides, average sizes. 15s to 24s each ; cow hides, do, 10s to 14s each ; Victorian salted, 2£d to 3jd per lb; New 'Zealand do, 3d to 4d per lb. Kangaroo Skins.—There is a moderate demand for large, fresh, well-conditioned skins, which are extremely scarce at this season of the year. Inferior lots are almost unsaleable. For the former we quote from 6d to 10(1 per lb. Tallow. —The tone of this market, continues flat, and at pur. sale hold yesterday we found great difficulty in obtaining satisfactory results. Mutton realised from, £27 to £3O per ton; beef, £25 to £27 10s per ton ; mixed, £2l to -26 10s per ton. I Wheat—At our sale to-day wo catalogued 2287 bags. There was a full attendance, and brisk competition, one parcel of 100 (Goldsmith's Prolific) realising 6s 4d. and East Charlton seed 4s lOd per bushel. We sold atauction and by private contract daring the weak 1248 bags at the following prices, viz.: —Prime seed, 4s lOd to 5s 4d ; : prime milling, 4s BJd to 4s 9d ; medium to good, 4s 5d to 4s 8d; and inferior, froralJ3Sj,3dJto 4s per bushel. 04s—Since ott* last report we have quitted 662 bags at the following prices Good feed, 3s 6d to 3s -7d ; medium to goo I, 3s 2d to 3s 4d ; inferior, 2s 7d to 3s Oid; and prime seed, up to 3s lOd per bushel ... Flour.—Good country brands are saleable [atTfrom £lO to £lO 5s per ton. Pol ard.—All coming forward finds ready purchasers at extreme rate . Bran.—For good, 13jd p'rbuahel Is obtainable. ■ Barley.—At our sale to-day we offered several parcels, and obtained full rates fur-all offered. W* ' quote;—Prime malting. 7s to 7s 6d : medium to good. 6s to 6s 4d ; inferior, 4s to 5s ; and Cape, 3s 8(1 pec bushel. Grass Seeds,—Wo disposed of a small line prairie grass at 2s 4jdiper.bushel,: and bags 8d each.
