The following table nhows the mumber of births, the actual mortality, and the proportion p£ deathsto populatijon in the chief boroughs in New Zealand during, the month of February, 1879:" Y: '
Of the deaths, males contributed 96; females, 76;-116 of the 1 deaths were of children under five years of age, being 67’44 per cent, of the whole number; 80 of these were of children under 1 year of age.' • There were 8 deaths of persons over 65 years of age, viz., 1 female of 68, at' Auckland; 1 female of 84, at Thames; 3 males of 68, 73, and 87; at Wellington ;2 females of 72 and 79, at Christchurch; and T female of 70, at Invercargill.
