The Albert, rather a fine-looking barque of a little, over 600 tons burthen, arrived in harbor yesterday afternoon in charge of Pilot Holmes, after a lengthy passage of 137 days from Now York. Her long voyage has been a most uneventful one. The weather throughout has boon remarkably line; Captain Erskine reports that during the whole time he has been at sea ho never witnessed such a succession of fine weather; os a proof of how light the winds have been we may state that the vessel never had her upper topsails in until nearing Tasmania, when a stiff north-east gale was met with. This was the only brcpze the vessel experienced during her 137 days at sea. In tho tropics she w*s becalmed for days at a time, with an occasional light wind. The following account of h r voyage was given us by Captain Erskine Left New York on November 7, 1878; after leaving had very fair westerly winds. Picked up tho north-east trades in 2C. They only lasted throe days, when a succession of calms and light airs were met. This weather continued until crossing the Lino on December 21, in 27 30 west; 44 days out. Tho south-east trades were brisk, and were carried to 27 south. Light winds were then experienced until crossing the meridian of Greenwich, in 30} south, on January 21, chiefly from north-west. From the Capo northerly wind. Rounded the Cape on tho 2Gth in 41 south. Had moderate winds and weather across the Southern Ocean chiefly from ‘W.S.’W. Was off Lewin on February 2G. Got a strong northeast gale off Tasmania. From thence had light and variable weather, with thick fogs. For four days ho observation could be taken. Made Cape Farewell on tho 22nd. Was becalmed again at Stevens Island for twelve hours. Came through tho Strait on. Sunday with a fine westerly breeze, and was down off the lighthouse at 3 o’clock. Being dark the vessel headed off the land, whore she, remained until yesterday, when she signalled for a pilot, arriving here as above. Tiie Albert brings a cargo of Yankee notions, part of which is for Lytte ton, where she proceeds after discharging her Wellington portion. She cornea consigned here to Messrs. W. and G. Turnbull.
