HAWKE'S BAY RACES.

Napier, Friday. Although it rained heavily throughout last night it cleared up towards morning, and the second day’s races of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club were proceeded with to-day. The weather was very enjoyable, and admirably suited for racing. The course was in splendid order. Grey Momus was made a hot favorite, but was never in it from the start. Tamatea won easily by a length and a half, hawke’s bat plate, Of 00 aova. Two miles. "Weight for age. Entrance, £3. Merlin ;. .. , 1 All the horses were scratched for this race, with the exception of Vallance’s pair, Pinfire and Merlin. Vallance/ declared to win with Merlin, and Pinfire returned to the paddock. Merlin cantered round for the money, much to the disgust of the onlookers. PROVINCIAL PRODUCE STAKES, Of 00 aova.. with a sweepstakes of 3 sovs. each for starters added. For ail horses bred in the Provincial District of Hawke's Bay that have never won an advertis d race exceeding £25 at the time of entry. "Weight for ago. One mile. Hero i Camellia.. .. " Hailstorm 3 This was a good race, Hero winning by a length. tradesman's handicap. Of 100 sovs., with a sweepstakes of 6 sovs, each for acceptors added.
