THE DIXON FAMILY CRICKET MATCH.
The gathering of the Dixon family took place yesterday on the Basin Reserve. The presence of some of the family from the country caused Mr. Edward Dixon to revive the gathering, which has not taken place since 1877. The chief event was a cricket match, and while we cannot say that there an immense display of cricket, we may say this—it was a novelty. The following are the scores : u. dixon’s side.
The match was thus won by one run only. Between the innings a lunch was provided for the family, at which the health of the elders and the umpires was drunk with musical honors ; and at the close of the match the oldest male member of the family, Mr. Edward'Dixon, was hoisted shoulder high and carried to the grand-stand. We may mention that at least eighty members of the family were present, and besides these there are not less than fifty in the Wairarapa and twenty in Wanganui. A dance took place at the Pnncess Theatre in the evening, which was attended by the members of the family and their friends.
