THE BASIN RESERVE.
TO THE EDITOR OE THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —I wish to correct an error that appeared in your issue of Thursday last, in connection with a meeting of the Cricketers’ Association, where Mr. Hamilton stated that the cricketers had spent more money on the Basin Reserve than the grand-stand cost to erect. Allow me to inform Mr. Hamilton that the grand-stand cost (with alterations, &c.) over £BOO, and that the debenture holders have not received one penny of their principal up to the present time. I should like to ask the cricketers have they spent one-fourth part of that amount ? I can inform the association that the Caledonian Society has spent in improving the ground and keeping the fencing in repair during the last five years a much larger sum than the Cricketers’ Association. I beg leave also to inform the pubic that the crickets have had the use of the grand-stand for their paraphernalia ever since it was erected without paying one penny to the Calcdouian Society, and they have never had the common courtesy to thank the debenture holders for the occupation. With regard to the charges made by the society the public arc well aware that the money so received is all spent in sports for the amusement of the public, at the same time the directors of the society have to put their hands in their pockets every year; still the society is getting deeper indebted, and has a considerable overdraft at their bankers.
In conclusion, and on behalf of the debenture holders (of which I am a holder of nearly onefourth) I would recommend the association to remove their boxes, &c., out of the grand-stand before the Ist day of March next, at the same time the trustees of tho Basin Eeserve and the directors of the society are agreeable to meet the committee of the cricketers for the purpose of making some amicable arrangement.— I am, &c.,
One op the Trustees op the Basin Reserve.
