Public Notices OF WELLINGTON. IN THE MATTER of an intended Bin. to authorise the Municipal Corporation of the City of Wellington to reclaim from the sea certain lands in the Harbor of Port Nicholson granted to the Corporation by Grant dated the 24th day of June, 1874, aud commonly called “THE TE ARO RECLAMATION GRANT,” and to provide material for such reclamation, and to raise the moneys necessary for the purpose of such reclamation, and for dealing with the said lands when reclaimed. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Mayor, Councillors, aud Citizens of the City of Wellington, incorporated under the provisions of the “Municipal Corporation Act, 1876," intend to present a petition to the General .Assembly of New Zealand at its next session, praying for leave to introduce a Bill authorising them to reclaim from the sea that portion of the Harbor of Port Nicholson which is described in the Schedule hereunder written, aud which was granted to them by Grant from the Crown, dated the 24th day of June, 1874; and authorising them to acquire by private contract from any person or persona willing to sell the same any land within the City from which materials for the purposes of such reclamation may conveniently be obtained, or to make arrangements with the owners of any such lands for the purchase ahd removal of such materials ; and authorising them to raise moneys for the purpose of carrying out the undertaking ; And notice is hereby also given that the said Bill is intended to contain provisions for enabling the said Corporation to appropriate any part of the same lands to the purposes of dry or wet docks, with power to levy tolls or other charges for the use of the same ; and to appropriate any part of the same to the purposes of streets aud reserves for public purposes ; and with power to dispose of any part or parts of the said lands not required for the purposes of streets or other public uses by way of sale or lease : And notice is hereby also given that the said Bill is intended to contain provisions for securing to all persons whose property may be prejudicially affected by the execution of any of the works intended to be carried out under the provisions of the said intended Bill due compensation in respect of the same : And notice is hereby further given that copies of the said intended Bill will be deposited in the office of the Examiner of Standing Orders on the eighteenth day of March next. The Schedule above referred to:— All that parcel of laud in the Province of Wellington, in Our Colony of New Zealand, containing by admeasurement seventy (70) acres, more or less, situate in the Harbor of Port Nicholson, and being the Reserve marked K on the plan of the City of Wellington. Bounded towards the north-east by laud included in a Crown Grant to his Honor the Superintendent of Wellington, dated June twentieth, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-two, (160) one hundred and sixty links and by other parts of the said Harbor of Port Nicholson one thousand two hundred and two (12u2) links, one thousand two hundred and two (1202) links, one thousand two hundred and two (1202) links, and one thousand two hundred and two (1202) links; towards the east by other part of said Harbor nine hundred and seven (907) links, towards the south-east by Clyde-quay 941 links, and by Sections Nos. 222, 223, 224, and'22s eight hundred aud sixteen (816) links ; towards the south-west by Sections Nos. 218, 219, 220, and 221 eight hundred links (800) by Sections 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, aud 217, and by Reserve No. 9 one thousand four hundred and thirty-five (1435) links, by Sections Nos. 208, 209, 210, and 211 eight hundred and fifty-four (854) links, and by Sections Nos. 204, 206, and 207 five hundred and fifty (550) links, and towards the north-west by laud reclaimed by Sir George Grey six hundred and thirty-six (636) links, by said land granted to his Honor the Superintendent of Wellington one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three (1873) links, and by other part of the said Harbor five hundred aud thirty-two (532) links—Excepting always a piece of land one hundred and fifty (150) links wide extending along the whole northern front of the land above described. The SERVICES of duly qualified DRAFTSMEN being required in the Sur-veyor-General’s Office, Sydney, New South Wales, applications are invited from gentlemen competent to perform the duties, for which purpose they will have to pass a satisfactory examination in the following subjects, viz.:— 1. Writing from dictation 2. Writing a description of the boundaries of a portion of land 3. Lettering (free-hand) in large and open Roman capitals and Arabic numerals 4. Ordinary map drawing 5. Reducing 6. Plotting traverses 7. Computation of latitude and departure, and applied plane trigonometry generally, including computation of areas by the system of double longitudes, &c., and satisfy the Surveyor-General that they are generally competent to perform the duties of a survey draftsman. In the event of passing the examination the remuneration will depend upon the degree of efficiency that may then and thereafter be exhibited. Temporary draftsmen are divided into seven classes, at rates varying from 6s. to 17s. per diem, for five and a halt working days per week.
