IMPORTANT CAPE NEWS. (REUTER'S TELEGRAMS.) Cafe Town, February 10. The 24th Regiment and 600 natives were almost entirely annihilated by 20,000 Zulus. Sixty British officers and 200 soldiers were killed. Natal is in great danger. The Governor and High Commissioner are demanded to instruct reinforcements to be sent. The Zulus lost 5000. London, February 11. The following reinforcements have left fo r the Cape : —Six hundred infantry, two British cavalry regiments, and two batteries of artillery leave immediately. Reinforcements sufficient to terminate the struggle start within a week. London, February 8. The strike of the engineers has commenced. Two thousand men have turned out from eighteen different London firms. February 10. England has purchased from Turkey all the Crown domains of Cyprus. The Australian and New Zealand December mails, via Brindisi, were delivered on the Bth. Constantinople, February 10. The Russian Ambassador to the Porte, and the Turkish Minister for Foreign Affairs, signed definitive Russo-Turkish treaty of peace this evening. The treaty provides that the Russian evacuation of Turkish territory shall begin to-mor-row, and terminate on the 16th of March. Podgoritza is to be delivered to Montenegro. The treaty annuls that concluded at San Stefano, and provides for the indemnity of three hundred million paper roubles, payment of the same to bo arranged later. Melbourne, Wednesday. Arrived—Claud Hamilton and Hero. Nothing further is known of the movements of the Kelly gang. The manager and teller of the Bank of Jeriklerie have arrived in Melbourne. Thursday. The verdict of the jury blames Dr. Crooke for making the post mortem examination, and considers his conduct suspicious. His deposition was submitted to the Attorney-General. (SPECIAL TO PRESS AGENCY.) London, February 10. Two thousand (? 20,000) Zulus attacked a portion of the 24th Regiment and 600 native levies at Ronako’s drift. They captured 100 waggons, 1000 rifles, and a quantity of ammunition, and the regimental colors. The Zulus lost 5000, and the British 500. The whites killed are all officers. The Cape Government have applied for reinforcements of infantry and one cavalry. Sydney, Thursday. In the Assembly last night, Mr. Watson, the Colonial Treasurer, made his Financial Statement. He estimated the excess of revenue over expenditure for this year at £126,000. He announced his intention to submit a bill to abolish the gold duty, and to introduce a scheme affecting railway extension. Brisbane, Thursday. In consequence of the occurrence of some virulent cases of small-pox on board the mail steamer Somerset, the vessel has been ordered into quarantine here.
