Arrived: Arawata, at 7 a.m., from Wellington; Evan Bell, American barque, from Sydney and Boston; Wakalipu, from Port Chalmers. The purser states that a largo ship, believed to be the Fiji, bound to Port Chalmers, was passed this morning by the steamer. Captain Joss, of the schooner Onward, reports that the wreck of the Southminster has parted amidships. The mainmast Is standing, and could see part of the poop-deck out of the water, and some of the frame of the forepart above water. Captain Donovan, of the Josephine, reports tcrrjflo weather off Cape Falliser on the oth, in which a part of the schooner’s bulwarks was smashed, and at 10 a.m. next day the sea broke aboard, and filled the forecastle and cabin, and-washed away the Are scuttle and stove In the caboose, the vessel almost foundering. Sailed: Arawata, at 4 p.m,, for Port Chalmers ; Wakatipu, for Wellington, at 5 p.m.; Maori, for Tlmaru, at 6 p.m, BLUFF, Wednesday. Sailed : Jessie Readman, for London, with a cargo Of wool, meats, wheat, and tallow, valued at £90,000. FOXTON, Wednesday. Sailed: Jane Douglas, at 12.30 p.m., for Wellington. PATEA, Wednesday. Arrived : Patca, at 1 p.m., from Wellington. AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Vho Ilefo leaves for Melbourne on the 18th, Tlio steamer Manawatu left last night for Wangitniti. The Inquiry Into the cause of the collision between the steamers Hula and Go-Ahead, takes place to-day at the Resident Magistrate's Court. The ships V«n Dieman and Inch MarnooU are nearly empty. It Is not yet known where either will clear to from here, as they are waiting orders from home. The steamers Hula and Stormblrd left Wanganui late on Tuesday night, and arrived here yesterday at midday. Fine weather was experienced on the run up. The steamer Napier, from Blenheim, arrived In harbor yesterday evening at 4 o’clock with afodl cargo of wool. She leaves again to-day. The steamer Charles Edward left Nelson last night, and should arrive hero early this morning. The Huia and Stormblrd had a trial of their respective speed on the way up from Wanganui, andfrom reports the new Auckland built boat appears to be considerably the faster of the two. Tbo Stormblrd left ten minutes before the Huia. The latter called at Kapati, landed a passenger, and 759 feet of timber, and arrived In harbor twenty minutes before the old boat,
The steamer Go-Ahead from "Wanganui arrived at the wharf at half-past 4 o’clock yesterday evening. She left Wanganui at 11.30 on Tuesday night. Tlie steamer Tui is undergoing a complete and thorough overhaul. She will probably bo detained here until Monday, when she will resume her running between Kaikoura and Lyttelton. The steam collier Easby was to have left Melbourne last Thursday for Sydney, so that she will not behere before next Wednesday at the earliest.
Tlie steamer Lyttelton, after discharging her cargo ex City of Auckland, left last evening for Blenheim. The steamer Wellington arrived at the wharf at 6 o’clock yesterday morning. She left Nelson at, midday on Tuesday, and Picton at midnight, arriving here asabove. Fine weather was experienced throughout tho trip. She loaves to-day for llanakap and Intermediate ports. Tho steamer Wakatipu, from Port CliMmets and Lyttelton, is duo hero this morning. ShG loaves during tho afternoon for Sydney. Tho ship Loch Fergus, from London to Wellington was spoken on December 11 in 40 N. 12 W. It has now linen considered prurient to make a further reduction In tho strength of fno Mediterranean fleet. Tho ships at Gallipoli are no longer under tho Immediate command of a (lag officer, Eear-Admirai Sir J ohn Commcreil having been mmoved and.directed to return to England. Tho Agincourt, the second flag-ship, has also been taken from tho strength of the Mediterranean fleet, and is now appropriated for service with the Channel senadron. Tho Shannon, ironclad. recently arrived at Malta from China, is also detailed for tho Channel squadron. Instead of for Admiral Sir Geoffrey Hornby’s command, and tho Foxhound, which lias been for many months detained In the Mediterranean, has now bee’a ordered to proceed to China. Another ship, tho Seagull, which was Intended to go up the Straits op. arrival from the West Coast of Africa, lias had I’.er orders cancelled, and will receive orders for Eo gland on arrival at Gibraltar.
