CRICKET.

AUDIT T. TREASURY. This matcli was played yesterday on the Basin Reserve, and resulted In a victory for the Audit by 7 runs. Wickets were pitched at 11 a.m., and the Audit having won the toss sent the Treasury to the wickets, and at 12.15 had disposed of them all for 109 runs. After a short interval for lunch tho Audit went to the wickets, and at three o’clock completed their innings after putting together 116 runs. The Treasury in their second innings made 97, and the Audit made 13 with the loss of three wickets when time was called as agreed upon at 5.30, and the match decided by the first innings. The scores in full arc appended. After the cricket match the most amusing event of the day, “ The tug of war,” between eight of each department was pulled off. The Audit were again victorious after a very hard and well contested straggle. It was agreed that the contest should be decided by the best three out of five pulls. The first pull, after a hard tussle, was decided in favor of the Audit. Two more severe struggles were left undecided by the breaking of the rope, when the competitors on either side came heavily to mother earth, some of tho bystanders saying “ They thought it was an earthquake.” A new rope was soon procured, and after two more hard struggles the Audit were declared tho winners. The teams were as follows ;—Treasury— Greville, Cowie, Smith, Davies, Moginie, Collins, Taylor, Meaoham (captain).
