On the 27th November, while in the south-east trades, an apprentice named Edward Paterson Shaw, who has also a brother on board, was washed from the forecastle deck. Arrived : Star of tho Mersey, from Dunedin ; the steamer Geelong, with a raft of 100,000 ft of kaur’ for shipment South. Tho captain reports losing several lo a off Wan ape. Tho steamer Stormblrd loft Wanganui at 10 o’clock on Monday night, crossed the bar an hour later, and arrived hero at 10 o’clock yesterday morning. Fine weather was experienced along tho coast. The steamer Tui left last night for Kalkoura and Lyttelton. The Go-Ahead may bo expected to arrive to-day from Wanganui. Tho steamer Taiaroa, from Platon and Nelsoa, is due here early this morning. We understand she will be tho flagship for the regatta to day. Tho West Wanganui Coal Company’s steamer Samson left last night for Waltara. After discharging cargo there she proceeds to tho company’s mine for another load of coals. The harbor was alive with small vessels yesterday. Neatly all the yachts and open boats took advantage of tho steady southerly breeze and made a trip round tho course. Several of tho coasters are busy making preparations in the way of extra stays and other odd jobs, in anticipation of tho races to-day. Should there bo anything of a breeze the sight will be quo well worth seeing. The ships Fcrnglen and Pleiades are having quick despatch with their Inward cargoes, which are being landed in fine order. Tiio barque Alexa, in the fairway, is anxiously waiting for a clmngo of wind. She Is bound, wo understand, for China via Newcastle. Tho steamer Charles Edward, from Nelson, arrived in port at 0 o’clock yesterday morning. She left Nelson late on Monday night, and experienced fine weather across. She left again for tho same port last night. The steamer Jane Douglas arrived hero at 9 o’clock last night from Foxton. Fine weather was experienced. The steamer Kiwi left for tho East Coast ports to fill up with wool, yesterday evening. There was no sign of the Alert, Thames, or Cynthia as being off tho Heads up to 7 o’clock last evening. There is just a chance, however, that one or all three of them may yet turn up in time to enter for tho coasters’ race. Tho Melbourne Argus publishes tho following foreign shipping intelligence, received by submarine cable per the Merchant Shipping and Underwriters' Association:—Sourabaya, January 2, —Tho Burgomoister van Mlddloburg, barquo, from Java to Sydney, with sugar, has gone ashore at Cape Sodano, Baly Straits. Java, and remains aground. A steamer will be sent to assist her off.
