PAHAUTANUI SCHOOL TREAT.

(from our own correspondent.) The annual tea meeting forthe Pahautanui school children was hold on Boxing Day. \ The arrangements were made by the local committee, who did all in their power to make the day pass off pleasantly. The teacher and the Horokiwi Valley school children were Invited, and also Mr. Toomath, a member of the Education Board. Over 100 children Bat down to a very excellent tea, which was supplied by Mr. Fred Bills, and after they had loft the table their places were taken by the parents and friends of the children, who assembled in great numbers. The Pahautanui brass band was on the ground, and played several lively airs, which tended to enliven tho sceno. Tho room was decorated with evergreens and flowers and flags. There was also a banner with an inscription, which was tastefully exe. cuted by Mr. Singer, the master of the Pahautanui school. The inscription was as follows : —" Welcome Horokiwi; and to all a merry Christmaß and a happy noiv year." Alter the tea was over the great point of attraction was a Christmas-tree at one end of the building, which was decorated and loaded with presents for tho phildrcn. These presents consistod of many useful and ornamental articles, which wero mado aud provided by some of the parents and' friends of tho children, who doserve praise and thanks for their kindness. The day passed off very agreeably, and tho party broke up about seven o'clock in tho evening.
