RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Tuesday, December 24. (Before T. A. Hansford, Esq., R.M.) ASSAULT.

James Barron aud Robert Williams were charged with assaulting Thomas Bard, second officer of the ship Gorina. Prisoners pleaded not guilty. J. Bard, second officer of the barque Gorina, deposed that on the 22ud inst. the two defendants came on board the worse for liquor. They wanted to rouse the captain out. Witness would not allow them. Defendants then caught hold of witness. Prom the evidence it appeared that Williams was not to blame, and he was discharged. Barron was fined 10s., or three days’ imprisonment. ANOTHER CHARGE. The prisoner Barron was further charged with assaulting James Stewart, the master of the vessel, on the 23rd inst. The case was fully proved. Prisoner was sentenced to 12 weeks’ imprisonment. FIGHTING IN THE PUBLIC STREETS. Charles Platt and A. Purdie were each charged with committing a breach of the peace by fighting in the public streets. The case was fully proved. Platt was fined 10s., or in default three days imprisonment j and Purdie 205., or six days’ imprisonment. THREATENING LANGUAGE. Prank Edmond was charged by Jane Stowe with using threatening and abusive language towards her on the 22nd instant.' The case was a most trivial one. Defendant was ordered to enter into his own recognisance in £lO, and two sureties of £5 each, to keep the peace for six months.
