London, December 18.
Speaking in the House of Commons, the Home Secretary admitted that great distress prevailed in Great Britain ; but added that he believed the reports to be exaggerated. The motion of the Under-Secretary for India, making the Afghan war chargeable on the Indian Exchequer, was carried by 235 votes to 125.
• Both Houses have adjourned until the 13th February, for the Christmas holidays. AUSTRALIAN NEWS. ■ Sydney, Thursday. The Ministry have resigned. Parkes is forming a Government. The strike mediation has been renewed. Sailed : Easby.
