The meeting was quite a success, and passed off very pleasantly, many of the events being closely contested, and exciting a good deal of interest among the company present ae well as among the competitors. The priz u consisted of albums, boohs, mathematical instruments, &c., and included a handsome gold and silver cup presented by the Amateur Athletic Club for tho steeplechase, and a whip presented by Mr. Duncan Cameron for the. Buchanan, hon. see., a young gentleman whoso onerous duties were wonderfully well performed, considering the limited amount of experience which ho can claim. Tho programme was well and carefully arranged by the committee, and the difficult duties of handicapping were faithfully carried out’ by those appointed. The judge (Mr. Cameron) and the starter (Mr. Berry) are so well known for tho kindly interest they take in all athletic gatherings that it is almost superfluous to add (hat (hey performed their duties In a way that left nothing to bo desired, and that they were thanked and honored in true schoolboy style by three hearty cheers upon the conclusion of the meeting. Wo omit tho amount of distance allowed In the various handicaps. The relative powers of boys belonging to one school are so well known among themselves that in order to impart any interest to a race the best boys must be required to concede a Tittle to their less in order to induce a full number vt entries, h*cc» the owessity for handicaps.
