SPECIAL TELEGRAMS. London, December 14. The money market is becoming stringent. The bank minimum is unchanged. The bank reserve has been weakened by withdrawals to the country banks, but there have been large arrivals of gold from Paris. A calmer feeling now prevails ; the stock markets were much agitated by the late bank failures. Consols, 04. The market for Australian securities is weak and unsettled. There is no abatement in the spirit previously reported as displayed at the wool sales. The prices have recovered from their temporary relapse. The present series of sales close on the 16th. The corn market is quiet. Home deliveries have been moderate. (REUTER'S SPECIAL TO PRESS AGENCY.) London, December 14. Princess Alice Hesse Darmstadt died at seven this morning. Mr. Gerald Fitz Gerald, late of Calcutta, has been appointed Comptroller-General of the finances of India, Stdsbt, Monday. The Government has taken the first steps to appoint a Commission to manage the Exhibition. The Now Caledonian Government has gazetted a Commission to inquire into the causes of the recent revolt. The Queensland Government has notified that it will withdraw from the contract with the Australian Steam Navigation Company if the terms are unobserved of the recent Chinese enactments, or if they are ignored. Arrived ; Rotorua and Easby. The English Eleven won the Adelaide match by three wickets. It is stated that the Newcastle miners have decided to refuse to work the coal for the A.S.N. Company’s steamers.
