ARRIVAL OF THE OTAKI FROM LONDON. The Otakl, another of the New Zealand Company’s fine ships, arrived in harbor yesterday, after a good passage of 85 days from Plymouth, or 80 days from land to land. She is commanded by Captain Devitt, who has brought his vessel into port scrupulously dean. She arrived off tho Heads on Monday night, was boarded by Pilot Holmes, who brought her in, and anchored within a convenient distance from the shore; The passengers have enjoyed excellent health during tho voyage, and arrive in high spirits. One death occurred a little this side of tho Line—Thomas Hopkins, aged 25, from diphtheria. Deceased was a single man, and a native of County Wicklow, Ireland. The Otakl brings a large quantity of general cargo, and will be berthed at the wharf to-day, when her hatches wiU be opened. The following account of tho ship’s passage was kindly supplied to us by Captain Devitt:—Left the South-west India Dock on Tuesday, September JO, at noon ; at noon on 11th September loft Gravesend; at 4 a.m. on the 12th cast off from the tug off Beachy Head; on Saturday, the 16th September, were off Plymouth at noon. Experienced a heavy gale of wind from the westward on entering the Bay of Biscay. Had fair north-east trades, but not much wind ; lost them in 12deg north, and then had the wind from the southward and south-west. Got the south-east trades in 2deg north ; crossed the Equator in 22deg west; lost the south-east trades in 26dcg south; a fair average trade wind ; got tho first of the westerlies on October 23, and ran 301 miles that day. Passed Gough Island on October 27 ; passed the meridian of the Cape on November 2, and made tho high land in Jackson Bay on December 5. The weather throughout was very unsettled, and the barometer remarkably low. Since making the land had nothing but light and unsteady head winds, varied with much, lightning, thunder, and heavy rain, and a few hours occasionally of heavy squally weather. One birth and one death occurred on the passage. The health and spirits of the passengers were good throughout. A few open air concerts took place during the fine weather. Tho following ships were spoken:—On September 17th, lat. 46 north ii'-d 7 west, spoke the steamer Luther, land-bound, to Calcutta; September 20th, the "Wethersfield, from London to Bombay, 42 north 14 west; September 22nd, the company’s ship Hurunui, bound to Lyttelton, New Zealand ; September 30th, the Hippellta, from Liverpool to Rangoon; October 14th, lat. 7 south long. 23 west, the Loch Bannock, 30 days out from Glasgow to Melbourne; On Tuesday, December 3rd, passed a large barque steering the same vray asourselves.
