PORIRUA.
A public meeting took place at Porirua on Wednesday, the Ith inat., concerning the retaining of the services of a medical man fur the district. Mr. King being called to the chair, Mr. Taylor proposed and Mr. Bryant seconded, —That the secretaries of the Johnsonville, Porirua, and Pahautanui Odd Fellows lodges be a committee, with power to add to their number, to canvass the district and see what support a professional man would get.— Carried. After a resolution proposed by Mr. Edward Earp, and seconded by Mr. John Morgan,—That any settler contributing to a bonus which is to be raised should have advantages in the shape of reduced changes,—hadbeen put to the meeting and rejected, it was moved and carried that this meeting do now adjourn to Bth January, 1879, at 7.30 p.m. Deputies were present from Pahautanui and Johnsonville ; they agreed that meetings should take place in their districts to further the object in view. Mr. Taylor consented to act on the committee and to give such assistance as he could in the matter.
