IMPORTANT TO SHIPOWNERS. Tho following regulations under tho Diseased Cattle Act, 1871, are gazetted, and will come into operation on tho first clay ol January next“ 1. No masl Jr of any ship or vessel, or other person whomsoever, shall in any river, port, or harbor in Now Zealand, or elsewhere in Now Zealand waters, transfer or attempt to transfer, cause or permit to bo transferred, or to bo attempted to bo transferred, assist in transferring or in attempting to transfer, any imported cattle from anyone ship or vessel to any other ship or vos:ol, without the written authority of tho Cattle Inspector of the district, defined under the said Act at or near to which such ships or vessels, or either of them, may bo. The term * Imported cattle' shall have the moaning given thereto in tho said Act as amended by tho Amendment Act hereinbefore recited, 2. If any such master of a ship, or other person whomsoever, shall so transfer any such cattle from one ship cr vessel to another without tho wiLttcu authority of a Cattle Inspector as aforesaid, ho shall bo liable for each offence to pay a penalty not exceeding one hundred pounds, to be recovered in tho manner provided by tho said Act: Provided that any resident magistrate or any two or more justices of the peace, before whom any such penalty is sought to bo recovered, may order a part only of such penalty to bo paid, if he or they shall think fit.”
