THE UNITED METHODIST FREE CHURCH, COURTENAY-PLACE.

The rapid progress which this body has made within the last year or two, under Divine Providence, the persevering energy of the pastor, Mr. Pedsfcone, and the encouiagement received from friends and the public, have rendered it necessary for them to lengthen their cords, strengthen their stakes, and erect a large and more suitable building for public Divine worship. Accordingly their architect, Mr. Fraser Jones, has prepared plans, &c., and a tender has been duly accepted from Mr. Hans Sydow for £2089, being about half the total cost at some future date, which will then hold 1000 persons comfortably. The present contract includes the completion of the outside, but not the gallery and internal elaborate decorations of a very consistent type. The dimensions are SOft. long, breadth 50ft., and height between floor andeeiling about 30ft., which instead of being elliptical is of two flattened parabolas. The building is decidedly of an ornamental character, and possesses several new and distinctive forms of decorative art. When thoroughly complete, we think it will be found well adapted for the purposes for which it is intended, and a good example of the kind of building that is required by a Methodist congregation. The architect, Mr. Jones, deserves credit for the style and finish of the plans he has prepared, as well as for the well-designed form *of building he has drafted.
