RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Friday, November 22. (Before Dr. Diver, and Mr. Hutchison, J.P.’s.) ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE. James Lane, an articled seaman belonging to the ship Jessie Headman, was charged by the chief officer with being absent from the ship without leave. Tho complainant deposed that on Thursday tho prisoner left the ship without leave and returned intoxicated. Prisoner was then further charged with assaulting the steward. It appeared from the evidence that while the mate went for a policeman the prisoner committed the assault, and txied to gain admittance to the captain’s private cabin. Tho first charge was withdrawn, and for tho assault prisoner was sent to prison for 14 days. ASSAULT. Joseph .Ryan, a seaman, belonging to tho ship Jessie Headman, was charged with assaulting William Edmonds. The evidence iu this case was the same us that already published relative to the disturbance which took place on tho wharf on Wednesday night. Prisoner was sent to gaol for four weeks, LUNACY. Isabella Jones, being of unsound mind, was sent to the Lunatic Asylum.
