RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

Thursday, November 21. (Before Dr. Diver, J.P., and Mr. J. G. Holdsworth, J.P.) DRUNKENNESS. An old offender, for drunkenness, was sent to prison for three months. A new arrival, who did not appear, was fined £l, ASSAULT. David Anderson was charged with assaulting Matilda Crawford and Henry Crawford. From the evidence it appeared that the defendant stopped Mrs. Crawford in the street. She called to her husband, who was a little way off, and then defendant assaulted him. Their Worships sent the offender to gaol for two months with hard labor. A ROW ON THE WHARF, William Stamp, a new arrival by the Jessie Keadman, and Thomas Kelly, a seaman belonging to the same vessel, were charged with assaulting James Brown, the night watchman. From the evidence it appeared that the complainant heard a disturbance at the end of the wharf, and after arriving there endeavored t o put a stop to it, when the two defendants assaulted him by striking him in the face and kicking him. The defendant Stamp was then further charged with assaulting William Edmonds, who came to Brdwn's assistance. The Bench considered both cases proved, and sentenced each of tho prisoners to one months’ imprisonment, with hard labor.
