F’earful gales have been experienced in the North Sea. AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney, Wednesday. The Fiji mail brings a report of the loss of the schooner Tubal Gain, bound for Auckland, from Levuka, on Ono Island. The seamen’s strike continues. The men leave all the A.S.N. steamers on arrival. They refuse to work while Chinese are employed. Sailed : Rotorua. Brisbane, Wednesday. The Queensland general elections are proceeding. Melbourne, Wednesday. The following is the result of the embracery convictions :—David Henry, money ■ lender, sentenced to four years’ imprisonment and £SOO fine ; Ireland and Frorist, money-lenders, two years’ imprisonment and £6O fine.
