Miss Hewitt has every reason to bo proud of the very high oomplimeut that was paid to her last night, prior to her departure for Auckland. Long before 8 o'clock the Athenaeum Hall was crammed iu every part, and many were afterwards unable to obtain admission. Apart from Miss Hewitt’s popularity, the programme was iu itself sulfide..tly attractive to draw a large audience, and the whole was an unqualified success. “ Cherry ripe," by Miss Hewitt, was enthusiastically encored. The recitation by Mr. Taylor, “ Mary Queen of Scots,” with musical accompaniment, was a really meritorious effort, and was highly appreciated. Mdlle. Charbouuet's performance was of course especially looked for, and the lady on both occasions had to respond to a The duet “ Oh, fairy wand,” from “ Maritaua, was a rich treat, and iu the bauds of Miss Neville and Mr. Cary was rendered with feeling and power, and rapturously encored. Miss Neville's aria “Una voce.” from the opera “II Barbihre,” was rendered with great feeling, and encored; while the descriptive song, Kussell’s “ tslave ship,” by Mr. Gary, was given with such expresdou and fire that it fairly brought down the house. This gentleman had to respond with I‘Kilocn allanah.” The“Laughiug Chorus" brought one of the most successful concerts ever held in the Athemum to a close. We understand that it is the intention of the committee out of the proceeds of the'concort to present Miss Hewitt with a jjold watch and chain as a souvenir of her friends iu Wellington.
