THE DEFICIENCY OF ROLLINGSTOCK ON THE FEATHERSTON RAILWAY.

A meeting of persona interested in the carrying of firewood on the Wellington and Featherston Railway was held in Mr. Fraser’s room, Manners street; last night. Present—Messrs, Whitehead (in the chair), Jones (Kaifcoke), Eli Smith (Muogaroa), Tonks, Pilcher, and Buck. Tbe Chairman, after explaining the object for which tbe meeting was called, proposed that a deputation from the Upper Hutt and other localities should unite with the Wellington public and wait upon the Commissioner of Railways to see what steps should be taken to expedite tbe goods traffic on the railway. He stated that there was a considerable inequality in the way the trucks weie distributed.

Mr. Buck stated that bis loss during the past six weeks was about £IOO through tho want of trucks. Ho bad a number of men working in tbe bush. He had offered to purchase trucks from the Government, but was unable to procure them, Mr .Jones, of Kaitoke, stated that be bad a large stock of firewood on hand, and bad been obliged to refuse orders in consequence of not being able to deliver tbe stock on hand.

Mr. E. Tones said that he as a brickmaker was just as badly off. He was unable to obtain wood to burn the bricks. He bad n kiln of bricks atrthe present time ready stacked, which he was unable to burn through wont of wood for firing them.

Mr. Smith said that since tbe Foatherston line had been open he could only get one truck a week, but he wanted three.. If bo could not get more he would have to knock off bis wood cutters.

The following resolution was then moved, and carried unanimously,—-That a deputation consisting of M ©asrs, Pilcher, Whitehead,Buck, Jones, and E, Smith should wait upon the Comissioner of Railways to-morrow morning at 11 a.m., to point out the necessity of atonco providing trucks, for firewood traffic, and the unequal distribution of trucks at present available foj: ueo,
