POSSIBLE MINISTERS.
TO THE EDIIOB Ol’ THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. , Stk,—Your correspondent “Viudex" urges the House of Representative to shake off at any price the disgrace of the present Administration. Ho is quite right, and we trust all agree that there is a necessity for action. Sir G. Grey and his miserable tail have dragged better men into the dirt with them ; but there they are, and they must stay’ there till they are purged by time and oblivion. Are we to have another recess full of the travellings of a Grey, a Rees, and aJ. 0. Brown ? The results of this session has shown the public what Sir G. Gray and his “ companions " can do in Parliament, and the country does not want a repetition of the dose. It is understood among all their friends that the members of tho late Government do not desire to return to office, and that they are quite prepared to lend their support and assistance to any honest creditable Government. But, sir, the Government must be a creditable one. “ Viudex ” has chosen a fair list of names on the .whole ; but what induced him to include Mr. Montgomery in a list of possible Ministers? Ho might as well have named Mr. Sharp. Those who are to take office, if they are to be .untrammelled by old official associations and animosities, must not bo discredited by men who are notorious self-seekers and shufflers, who enjoy the contidenon of no one. Mr. Oliver, as an Otago representative, who has won tho esteem of, a large number in tho House, might be added to the list of possible aspirants to office.—l am, &c., ■ r • Watcher.
