The case of McGee v. the Auckland Jockey Club for an alleged libel in connection with the disqualification of Palcon, has resulted in a verdict for the defendants on all the issues. Grahamstown, Tuesday. The Agency and the Press here are indignant that the Government should contemplate an agreement to allow a special wire aud a monopoly of extra hours of officers to three of their chief supporters in the colony, in Dunedin, Christchurch, aud Auckland, to the exclusion of others having equal rights. Greymouth, Tuesday. A slight shock of earthquake was felt last night at 10.45, which lasted about thirty seconds ; direction from east to west. Christchurch, Tuesday. The Diocesan Syduod opened this afternoon, when the Dean of Christchurch presided, in the absence of the Bishop. Prior to the proceedings commencing, tho president read the deed giving him authority to preside. In the course of a very long address which followed, he dealt with a large number of matters affecting the interest of the Church. In referring to those who had passed away during tho year, he said he trusted that the Church people of Canterbury would erect some memorial as a tribute to the late Bishop Sehvyn, who had done so much for the Christian Church in New Zealand. A shock of earthquake was felt here shortly before midnight. Dunedin, Tuesday. The City Council to-day passed a resolution protesting against the alienation of any portion of the Town Belt, as proposed by the Botanical Gardens Bill. An elderly man named George Brown was committed for trial on a charge of indecent assault. Invercargill, Tuesday. In the case of Pisheuden, an absconding bankrupt, the jury failed to agree as to the verdict, and were discharged this morning by Judge Harvey. At to-day’s sitting of the District Court, the Crown Prosecutor asked that a new trial should be taken forthwith ; bub a vale.msi for a writ of certiorari having been issued by tho Supreme Court,, the further hearing of the trial was adjourned until the next District Court sitting.
