DIOCESAN SYNOD.

Wednesday, October 10. Proceedings opened with prayer. The minutes of the former day's proceedings were read and confirmed. Moved by the Lay Secretary, and seconded by Archdeacon Stock,— That tho Synod go Into committee to consider tho-Bill to amend Statute V. The Synod then went into committee. Clause 1 was read and agreed to. Preamble read and agreed to. The Chairman reported progress. The Synod then went in session. Moved by tho Lay Secretary, and seconded by tho Rev. A. Towuood, —That tho BUI to amend Act No. V. bo read a third time and passed.—Carried. Bill read a third time and passed. The President declared that the words in Act V. t which were repealed by tho present Amendment Act, could he now struck out from the ActMoved by the Roy. R. W. Harvey, seconded by Mr. France, — That the first resolution attached to the report of the Diocesan Increase Committee be adopted by the Synod:—l. That a general canvass of the diocese be at once undertaken, with a view to ascertain whether a sufficient fund can be raised for the following purposes: (a) To provide adequate stipends for such a body of clergy as is demanded for tho spiritual oversight of all tho Church people within the diocese. (6) To build all requisite churches, parsonages, and schools, (c) To train young men for the work of ministry. Moved by the Rev. T. L, Tudor, seconded by Mr. Didsbury,— That the resolution bo considered in committee.—Carried. In the absence of tho chairman of committee, Mr, Buchanan was elected chairman. Moved by Mr. Halcomue,— That the resolution be passed.—Carried. Tho Chairman reported prepress. Synod in question. The motion moved by the Rev. B. W. Harvey was then put to the Synod, and carried. Moved by the Rev. B. W. Harvey, seconded by tho Rev, A. Towgood, —That a committee be appointed to make all necessary arrangements, to consist of the Right Rev. the Bishop and all the licensed clergy of tho diocese, Messrs. C. P. Towles, Hon. O, J. Pharazyn, W. H. Quick. Colonel Lcckle, J. It. Lysaght. G. W. tVllliaras. G. Beetham, R. Barton, A. W. F. llalcombe. —Carried. Moved by tho Rev. B. W. Harvey, seconded by the Rev. T. Fancoi ut, —That, should the canvass of tho tlioceso have shown that the proposed scheme is acceptable and practicable, the Bishop be requested to convene a special meeting of tho Synod to consider the whole plm, and to make by act of the Synod all due and necessary arrangements.—Carried. The Synod then adjourned.
