EXTRA HOURS OF LABOR.

TO TUB EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIJIES. Sib,—l have to apologise for trespassing on your valuable columns, and would refrain from doing so did I not feel a very grievous attempt has been made by aur present liberal Government to very seriously injure the whole of the working men of this colony. They (the Government) have issued a Gazette entailing two hours extra labor for the officers of H.M. Customs, aud those connected with the Queen’s wharf, and I am firmly convinced this is only a stepping stone to the 10 hours' labor by every working man throughout this colony. How the Premier could have such a document issued, I am at a loss to understand. One thing is quite certain in this jiustance notwithstanding his profession as a liberal man, or his promises to the working man, it is transparent that ho is either falsa to his professions, or his promises are worthless. Mechanics can easily foresee the end of tho road this finger-post indicates,; and X would strongly urge all men doing daily labor throughout tho colony to watch the movement of this, at least, careless Government of their interests, aud so long as tho present Ministry holds office, to give but little faith to promises which may, aud have been, so unscrupulously set aside. —I am, &0., Cosmopolitan.
