The following notification is published for general information : There will be held, on 9fch December next and upon subsequent days, an Examination of Candidates who may offer themselves to compete for a Clerkship in the Melbourne Bran ch of her Majesty's Mint. The salary attached to this clerkship will commence at £IOO per an M ura, with annual increment, and prospect of promotion in the department and of pension under the Imperial Acts relating to the superannuation of civil servants of the Crown. This examination will be open to any subject of her Majesty whose age is over 16 and doos not exceed 20 years on Ist December next. All candidates will be required to produce satisfactory proof of age, together with certificates of health and character, and to pay a fee of £3 3s. to cover the expense of conducting the examination. Candidates may offer themselves to be examined competitively In any one or more of the following subjects, viz.: — Maximum, No. of Marks. History of England 800 63 English Language and Literature .. .. 500 Language, Literature, and History of Horae ~ 600 ~ ~ „ Greece. .’"500 ~ ~ „ France 500 „ „ ~ Germany 500 Mathematics (Pure and Mixed) 850 The names of the candidates will be placed in the order gained in the examination in these subjects, and that candidate who may have gained the highest number of marks will bo appointed on probation, to be confirmed after six months if he is found to be fitted to hold the clerkship. Before entering upon competition candidates will be required to pass a preliminary test examination in Handwriting, Orthography, Arithmetic, and English Composition. Any person who may be desirous of offering himself for examination can obtain further information on application to the Deputy Master of her Majesty’s Mint, William-street, Melbourne.
