Arrived: Raymond, brig. She left Lyttelton on the 21st September, and had variable winds up to the 24ih. and then experienced astronggale from N.N W, with heavy s»’a off Kaikoura, which drove her 240 miles of the laud. Tne gale moderated on the 27th. and from thence she hod northerly winds till her anlval here. . Th» time-ball may be used to-day for rating chronometers, A chronometer true on Greenwich time would show 12h. 30rain. when the ball drops. Any difference is error, plus or minus, of tho chronometer. ' Tho following vessels were in harbor last night Steamers—Hinemoa, Taupo, and Stella ; ships— St. Leonards. Orari, and Ze landia; barques—G. M. Tucker, Edwin Bassett, Sophia R. Luhrs, Carlota, and Anno Melhuish; three-masted schooner Jessie McDonald; brigantine Star. The Tui left Lyttelton at 5.30 pm. on Monday, and arrived at Kaikoura at 9 a.m. on Tuesday ; left at 1.15 p.m., passed Cape Campbell at Bp.m., and .arrived in Wellington at 1 o’clock this morning. The schooner Spray, for Picton, and Annie Hill, for Kaipara.got away yesterday forenoon. Tho American brigantine Star was berthed at the wharf yesterday morning, and the three-masted schooner Jessie Macdonald,was shifted into the stream. The schooner Zior, with a full cargo of colonial produce from Timaru, arrived in harbor yesterday morning.and hauled alongside Plimmer’s wharf, where the will discharge cargo. ' for Wanganui, sailed shortly before last evening. The barque Anne Melhmah, from Newcastle,arrived In harbor early yesterday morning, she left Newcastle on the 20th, and experienced light and variable winds across. Off tills coast very foggy weather was met with, which detained her several days. She arrived at the Heads on Monday, and sailed in as above. The Union Company's steamer Taupo arrived in harbor at mid *ay yesterday. She left Port Chalmers at 6 p.m. on the 28th, r.r.djarrived off Timaru at daylight on Sunday; sailed again at 8.30 a.m., and reached Ly• telton at I- p. m. same day ; left at 7 p.m. on Monday, arriving in Wellington as above. She sails for Auckland via the East Coast to-day. Tho. ship-St. Leonards was brought to a berth at the wharf, yesterday afternoon. She will open hatches to day. The steam collier Eosby sailed for the Southern ports yesterday evening. The steamer Wellington, from Nelson and Picton, 2s duo here to-day. She returns again to-morrow, at ; middAy. The steamer Charles Edward left Nelsoa at 1 p.m, j yesterday She will return this evening. I
