RIFLE SHOOTING.

The first monthly competition of the City I? idea Volunteer Corps for their challenge medals and money prizes came off on Saturday afternoon last. .The ranges were 200, 400, 500, and 600 yards ; five shots at each range. The shooting at the 200 and 400 yards was very good, W. Ballliuger making 3/ points, and Captain’ Crowe, Sergeant Bowie, and Private R. Scott each making 34 points, the latter making the highest possible score at the 400 yards. The shooting at the long ranges was very indifferent, the highest scorer at the 600 yards range being Private Pooley, with 15 points. The undermentioned scores show that Private W. Ballinger is-the winner of the gold medal for this month, Captain Crowe being the holder of the silver one. The following are the five highest scores
