SPECIAL TELEGRAMS. London (undated). The French .Government has postponed the distribution o£ the Exhibition prizes to 21st October, in order to secure the presence of members of Parliament, and other eminent visitors. There is great discontent in consequence amongst the exhibitors, and a deputation waited on the Commissioners and requested that the awards be published immediately. The matter has been referred to the Minister of Commerce.
The report of the Rhodope Commissioners confirms the worst stories of the outrages committed by Russians and Bulgarians in Rhodope. The British, French, Italian, and Turkish delegates agree on their report. The Russian and German refuse their signatures. The Austrian delegate was absent from illness. The Laical, warship, has been ordered from the Cape to Australia. A disastrous fire has occurred at Riga, Disastrous flood! have occurred in the Tyrol. The destruction of property was immense. A severe shook of eathquake has been felt at Cologne. It is probable that a compromise will be effected in reference to the cession of Batoum, the people paying tribute to Russia, and maintaining their present institutions and existing officials. The Australian cricketers are playing eighteen of Hastings. In the first innings the latter had ten out for 104. They are a strong team. August 27. The Government has accepted the tender of the P. and 0. Company for the conveyance of the Indian and China mails for eight years from February, 1830. The Underwriters’ Association report under date London, August 27.—Arrived : Carnatic, from Wellington. Sydney, Monday. The latest Caledonian news says that the French warship Ranee has arrived with two hundred troops. The revolters hold out in the mountains, and other tribes have joined them. Engagements have taken place, and the troops have been successful. The revolters arc well organised, but it is believed they will eventually bo reduced by starvation.
