RAILWAY TRAVELLING.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND Sin, —It would be difficult to conceive in the annals of New Zealand railway travelling a more wretched mode of spending the waiting moments for the arrival of the train than was experienced by some twenty to thirty people assembled at Petoni station during the inclement weather of Thursday evening, for, like myself, most of them had arrived early to save being overtaken by darkness on the road ; and there we were for over half an hour, sans light, with the only alternative of taking refuge from the cold and piercing wind by going into a filthy shed called a station, where you v could not remain two minutes without experiencing the consciousness from certain glowing and smart sensations that a whole light brigade of Maori belongings, were gradually making themselves masters of the position, or of remaining outside, as I preferred doing, and keeping oneself from freezing as best one could until the arrival of the train. I think that most people will agree that the time has com© for not qnly lighting, but for adding a waiting-room for the accommodation of women and children to a station that at which ss daily growing in importance. ! By-the-by, "why have the Government altered the name of the station from Petoni to Petone, which is wrong' ? —I am, &c., A Traveller.
