Tho schooner Atlanta. 22 days out, bound from Patea to Mokau. with a cargo of sheep, is missing, as well os tho topsail schooner Kaiuma, from w altar a, with sheep It Is feared that they are wrecked. A native brought word to the nearest station that a quantity of wreckage was washed ashore at South Head. A constable, on proceeding to the place indicated. found 30 carcases of fat sheep (no brands), which ‘h* natives said came ashore on the previous n!"ht, and also a small ladder and semi-circular box made with 7x2 battens, 2ft. Sin. in length, painted Prussian blue and white alternately. The box is one of the kind used for cove ing rudder-shafts, and is now in the constable’s possession. Constable Bulford was also informed by a settler living atßuapuke, distant 18 miles from Raglan, that on Friday last a portion of a false k«ol. a quantity of onions, a box of candles, and several sheep's carcases, had come ashore upon the Ruapnko beach. , . She left Newcastle on the 13th. and has made one of the smartest runs for some time, of sis days. Tbc ship Abeono. was berthed at the wharf yesterday morning, and br ke bulk. So far, the cargo has come out in good order. The rep -irs to the barque Elizabeth are going on apace, and in a few days she will be ready for sea. The G, M. The Knight of Snowdoun, barque, from Newcastle (N.S. i’.) for Manilla, has been totally lost at Punto Santiago; crew saved. The tonnage loading on tho berth at London on 4th July for India. China, and the Cape of Good Hope amounted to 43.000 tons, and for Australia and New Zealand t0C7,254 t ms. London, July s.—The freight market continues steady, with but few trifling alterations in the rates last quoted. There is -till a fair Inquiry for steam and sailing tonnage for tho Kast and the colonies, b *th from London and the coal ports. Homeward transactions continue depressed. From Java a few vessels have Hcen fixed at 00s., and 455. to the United Kingdom or Continent.
THE WRECK OF THE GROSSER KURFOR3T Twelve bodies recovered from this wreck were buried on Juno JO In Folkestone ccmeteiy, each coffin being drown on an artillery gun-carriage by six horse*. The procession was headed by the bands of tho 21st Hussars and doth Regiment, which played tho Dead March. The funerd was at'ended by many thousands of parsons, and Lady Bryan. Lady c; Lennox, and many others cast wreaths of immortelles into the grave. Tho ho ly of Count Schwerrin. the commander of tho Grosser Kurfurst. who sank with hU ship, was brought into Folkestone from tho wreck. It was dressed in full uniform, and wa very much dccomposed. Tho German Consul gave directions for tho body to be enclosed in a leaden coffin and conveyed to London, v/henco it wil bo taken to Germany. A reward of £IOO had bean offered by tho relatives for tho recovery of the body of the Count.— European Mail.

The barque Athelstone, Captain Bayley, on her voyage from Newcastle (X.S. \V) to *an Francisco, and while in latitude 20.49 N . longitude 144.2 W.. at 8.80 on the morning of May 29 fell in with a disabled Japanese junk, which had the appearance of being abandoned, and from which an offensive smell proceeded. The chief oflicor and a boat's crow were sent to the Junk, ami a deplorable spectacle w.ia aeon. Two dead bodies lay on the deck, and four otner men were found in the last stage of prostration from hunger and exposure. These were at onco taken off ami attended to on hoard the Atholstone, and from their story it appeared that the junk was employed In coasting service at the Island of Yesso, or Malslual, and had been disabled by a succession of heavy storms, which carried away the masts and the upper deck. Gungv. reports the existence of a ah -al patch, over which the vessel grazed, and on which there probably would not be more than 12ft at low water, lying one mile to the northward of the north island of the i’urtm Group, and with that island on with Lookout Point Nothing less than 7 fathoms was obtained by the load.
