SIR JULIUS VOGEL.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, —I am glad to see that the people of New Zealand are beginning to wake up as to what they owe to Sir Julius Yogel, and are showing a disposition to pay the debt. It is no ring of speculators who want him back, and no knot of selfish politicians, but the people whose prosperity he has done so much to establish and promote —whose .credit he has always been the first to defend. They recognise him as the true friend of the colony, and as towering far above all those who have tried to fill his place. He rings the true metal, aud the public are tired of Brummagem articles. Hence the desire to have him back here. The intense alarm which the suggestion has excited amongst those who drove him from the colonies, aud seem bent on keeping him at a distance, while losing no opportunity of sneering at and snubbing him, should of itself open people’s eyes. It would be a fortunate day fox* New Zealand if Sir Julius Vogel once more directed its Government, and I hope the day is not far distant. The proposed testimonial will, I am certain, be a thoroughly national one, worthy of the country which gives it and the statesman to whom it is given.—l am. &c., XY.Z.
