Public PTotices npHE IMPERIAL ART ASSOOIA. X TrON'.S ana n d i l ii e m uni aip t, TOR NINETY JUYS ONLY, TO BE SENr TO .EVERY HEADER OP THIS PAPER, Consisting of the Valuable Loaded Oleograph, entitled, “ROCK OP AGE S," Size 21 by 32 indies. The above Association take pleasure in announcing that they have succeeded in making arrangements, although at considerable expense, to present a copy of this justly famous painting to all the readers of this paper, and in doing so would call attention, with some degree of pride, to the thorough satisfaction their previous gifts have given, viz.:—“The Launch and Departure of the Life Boat,” and “ The Return of the Life Boat,” and would add that what they now offer is in every way superior as a painting in conception and finish. Por a description of this beautiful work of art (which is the only exact copy of Gustave Lemon's celebrated painting, and which was sold at the enormous price of 30,000 dollars), we need only append the following extract from the “ Christian Union,” New York :
There are many images in life employed to depict the influence of religion upon the mind of mankind, but few more effectual than that conveyed by Gustave Lenori, in his belebrated painting now iu the collection of the Imperial Art Association Gallery, entitled * Rock of of Ages.’ The idea is at once conceived and pourtrayed as the world a raging sea, bursting into threatening fury upon and around those battling with life ; the cross standing iu the midst as the one hope and refuge to which all eyes should look, and once fairly laid hold upon, neither wind nor wave can thereafter have power to sweep them away to destruction. Such beautiful allegories we feel disposed to favor, as we are convinced that neither the mind nor the eye can ever tire dwelling upon this picture, which is most artistically represented, and very finely is the story told.” PREMIUM VOUCHER..
