PROGRESS OF MASTERTON.
Tho Masterton correspondent of. the Standard of the 3rd instant states that the building trade is- in a greater stati of activity than ever, buildings of all descriptions springing up in all directions. Mr. F. Gray is putting up a couple of shops on his property in Bridgestreet, immediately adjoining the Club Hotel. Mr. Lynch has secured the contract for the erection of offices for R. and J. Brown on tiie same block. Tho Bank of Australasia’s new premises are being pushed on, the whole of the framework being up. Messrs. S. and ,T. Kebblewhite’s ceach factory is completed, and the additions to the premises of Mr. G. T. Farmer of another storey, together with the handsome verandah erected, has greatly improved the appearance of that corner, Mr. T. S. Jago’s new show-rooms for upholstery and general furniture are completed, and present a step in the right direction. "Designs are being undertaken by Mr. Schwabo, of Wellington, for additions and improvements to the premises of the Empire Hotel, Mr. Corbett, tho proprietor, having already added considerably to tho stabling' accommodation. Mr. T., Lowes, of the Railway Hotel, is having now stables erected, a well-known gentleman having leased them for a term. A great many private bouses are going up all round, most of them being of a superior class. Messrs.Dalrymple and Co.’s offices will shorilyboin hand, the .site being near tho new promises of the Bank of Australasia. Mr. Bell has considerably enlarged hie drapery premises, and has added considerably to tho appearance of his store by taking in the building lately known as the News Letter office. The work of restoring the premises damaged by fire is progressin" rapidly, and tho painters and glaziers are wirin'' in vigorously to obliterate tho marks of tho late scourge on some of tho largo buildinf's. Messrs. Vile and C 0.," tho well-known carriers, have secured a fine building site adjoining the railway station at Foathorston, where they intend erecting depot, stables, &c,,and there is not tho slightest doubt but their enterprise will be duly appreciated by the trading community generally.
