The first attempt to float the \nn Gambles was made to-day, and was unsuccessful.- The centrifugal pump kept the water from rising over the 'tween decks for two hours. After the tide flow-d and tho vessel became lively everything seemed likely tom ko the floating successful, when a tank shifted below, ami the water poured in. The Stella attended to assist in lowing off. • Another attempt will be made when tho tide makes again.

The barques Courier and Alma were hauled in to the wharf yesterday, and will commence discharging today. The steamer Ta'aroa left Tort Chalmers at 2 p.m. on Sunday, and arrived at Lyttelton at 11 a.m. on Monday .’sailed again at 0 p.m.. and made our bar- or at 11.30 yesterday morning. She leaves for Auckland via the East Const to-day.

The barque Auitralind cleared at the Customs yesterd »y for Newcastle. The Go-Ahead dees not sail for Wanganui until to-day. The Kiwi, for Napier, left last evening. The barque Anno Melhuish is from Newcastle, coal Uden, and like those that have lately arrived has had extremely heavy and boisterous weather.
