THE CHANGES IN THE TARIFF.
The following.resolutions were agreed to by the House of Representatives last night, and the duties will bo collectable at the various Custom Houses in the colony to-day^;—
1. That towards raising the supply granted to her Majesty, there shall bo levied and charged, on and alter the 7th day of August, 1873 on all ale. beer, porter, or other malt liquor brewed or made in New Zealand, an excise duty of 1J I. per gallon, which duty shall be paid by brewers or other wholesale vendors of be r by means of Inland revenue stamps, to be affixed by them or by their agents or servants in such a manner as the Commissioner of Customs may direct, on ever, hogshead,barrel.keg, or other receptacle in which any ale, beer, porter, or other malt liquor is contained. wlten sold or removed from any brewery, cellar, warehouse, or other place in which {the same may he made or store 1, 2. That in lieu of the duties of Customsuow charged on tho under-mentioned articles, the following duties of Customs shall, on and after the seventh day of August, 1878, be charged thereon on importation Into. New Zealand, or on being cleared from any warehouse for home consumption, viz.: Bicarbonate of soda, 2s per owt; cream of tartar, Id per lb; tartaric acid, Id do; fish, potted and-pre-served, Id do (or reputed package of that weight); sardines, yd i er half tin ; jams, Jellies, and marmalade, Id per lb (or reputed package of that weight) ; bottled fruits. Is per dozen; mustar,,, 2d per lb; pickles, quarts (or reputed pkgs of that quantity). 2a per dozen; pickles, pints, do. Is par dozen; sauces, 2s per dozen reputed - pints, , and so In proportion per dozen -of greater or loss reputed quantities ; starch, 4s per cwt: h ue. Id per. lb ;■ lead and composition piping, 2s per cwt: i ails. 2s do wrapping paper, brown, 2s do; do, other kinds, 3s do ; paper hags, 6s do; wool-packs. 2s 8d per dozen ; corn sacks, lid do; flour bags. 3I do. Boots and shoes: Men's No. 6 and upwards, 12s do ; youths . Nos. 2 to 5. 10s do; boys’, Nos. 7to I,os do : women’s No 3 and. upwards, 8s do; gir 8. Nos 11 to 2.7 u Cd do; ' girls’, Nos 7 to 10. Us do ; children's Nos 0 to 0 3s do; women's lasting and'stuff boots,-8s do. do ; Goloshes of all kinds, 2s Od do do; slippers—men’s, women's, and children's, No, 7 upwards 5s do do ; wines, sparkling, Cs per gallon.
