Euiuay, August 2. (Before T. A. Mansford/Esq., R*M.) Three inebriates,- for being drunk and disorderly, wore each fined 55., or 24 hours’ im* prisomneut. LARCENY. ■ • George Lorimer, on remaud, was charged with feloniously stealing a diamond ring valued at £lO, the property of Mr. Schwahe. Prosecutor stated that the prisoner was in his employ about six weeks, ago. They both lived at the Star Hotel, About the IGbh ult. he missed a diamond ring and a gold breastpin. ; He identified the ring and pin produced as his property. Prisoner stated that he found the ring in his bedroom about two'months before the prosecutor went to Mastsrton. Benjamin. Cohen said he was a licensed pawnbroker. On the 20th of last month the prisoner asked him to advance £1 on the ring. Witness gave him the £l. .On the 19th of July the prisoner pawned the pin produced for 15s. Prisoner was then committed to ■ take his trial at the next criminalsittingsof the Supreme Court. ANOTHER CHARGE. : Prisoner was then charged with stealing, on or about the 29th July, a gold' pin, the property of Barnard Moore, Prisoner pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment. PETTY THEFT. Alfred Wiltshire was charged with stealing a swag, the property of Christopher Bruuning. This case was adjourned until -Monday for the production of fresh evidence. ATTZMPIED SUICIDE. Patrick Cullen, who has been employed as night watchman at the Asylum, was charged with attempting to commit suicide. It appears that the unfortunate man tried to hang himself to a lamp-post at the junction of Hillstreet and Tinakori-road. On the police making inquiries, they were told by the prisoner that he had made three’ attempts to hang himself, but that the strap broke on each occasion., His Worship remanded the prisoner for medical examination.
