SAFE ARRIVAL OF THE HAWEA AT AUCKLAND.
(per press agency.) Auckland, Thursday. The Hawca has arrived. Her rudder-head carried away, and she ran for Hicks Bay, and lay there from Monday to Thursday. There was no other damage sustained. ' 'Captain Kennedy reports as follows :—Left Gisborne on Sunday morning. About 5 a.m. on the 29th the rudder-head carried away. It was blowing a strong N.W. gale, with very heavy sea. Ran for Hicks Bay, steering with the sails; anchored shortly after noon on Monday, and lay there till 8 a.m. yesterday, when the wind having changed to S.W, left for Auckland, with heavy sea and blowing a gale. Did not call at Tanranga. Captain Kennedy was presented with a complimentary address and a purse of sovereigns by the passengers. The Pretty Jane was safe at Hicks Bay when the Hawea left.
