RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Tuesday, July 30. (Before T. A. Mansford, Eaq., R.M.) •; DRUNKENNESS. Two inebriates were summarily dealt with for being drunk and incapable. BREACHES OP CITY BY-LAWS. r George Wilson, for allowing bis chimney to catch fire, was fined Is. and costs, James Fatter, Samuel Danks, and. J, ; Ran* son, for causing obstructions in the public streets, were each mulcted in similar sums. George Firrain, for allowing a horse to r wander at large in a public thoroughfare, was fined Is. and costs ; and Alexander 'Cameron, for permitting two cows to stray about .the streets, was fined 2s. 6d. and costs. James Kearaley, the owner of an unregistered dog, was fined 6a. and costa. ’ ASSAULT BY A SEAMAN. John ICerslick, an articled seaman belong* ing to the ship Pleione, was charged, with assaulting Charles Renaut, the master of the said ship. It appeared from tho evidence that the accused had asked for his discharge, which was refused by the complainant. The former then threatened to watch for the master arid' "do for him.” As Captain Renaut was going on board the ship on Monday night the accused came out from the side-of one of the goods sheds, and dealt him a severe blow from Captain Renaut then closed with his assailant, and called for help, when Captain Pltfield, master of the barque Chaudiere, came to his assistance. His Worship fined the accused 40s.’ and * costs, or in default seven days’ imprisonment. ANOTHER CASE. The same defendant was then charged under the Merchant Shipping Act with assaulting Captain Renaut on board his ship. This assault was committed shortly after the previous one. Tho case was fully proved, and the defendant was.sent to gaol for four with hard labor. MAKING USE OF THREATENING LANGUAGE, John Redman was summoned by W, H. Haynes, lessee of the Newtown for making use of threatening language towards him. 'Complainant said that he had no desire to press the charge. All ho wanted was that the defendant should keep away from his (complainant’s) house. Defendant was bound over to keep the peace for two months, himself in £lO and two sureties of £5 each. *
