GOVERNMENT ECONOMY.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sib, —Xhave been informed that a circularhaa been received by the various Road Boards stating that “the Government has decided that the New Zealand Gazette shall be supplied to Road Boards only on payment o£ usual subscription,” and a bill for the current year is enclosed, with a request for early settlement. This is a specimen of the much vaunted retrenchment of the new Ministry. This is the glorious fulfilment of the pledge given by the Hon. Mr. Ballance that the work of their predecessors would be loyally carried out, and thajt they would fulfil the directions of the last Parliament. In the face of these pledges can. they see no violation of principle in refusing to supply public bodies with the Gazette. If the Government will decide that the Gazette shall not be supplied to 'fJP.’a, newspapers, tec., without payment of\ the| usual subscription, then the Road Boards will not complain.—l am, &c., Anti-HumsWi.
