CITY COUNCIL.
The following is the Public Works Committee’s report, to be brought up this evening:— The committee beg to report—l. That the police are taking stops for the enforcement of the regulation relative to the registration of dogs. 2. That specifications for the new contract for removal of night soil are now under consideration,.and that the present contractor has notice of the termination of his contract on the 30th September. 3. That, in regard to tho alleged refusal by the land transfer authorities to recognise the regulations of the Council in reference to private streets, courts, or alleys, there has been some misunderstanding, the statements not being strictly in accordance with fact. 4, That the City Surveyor has been instructed to have tho cart stand in Custom House-street paved at once. The committee beg further to recommend—l. That the kerbing of the Adelaide-road, from Sussex-square to the Newton Hotel, bo not proceeded with at present. 2. That Mr, Gawne’s application for afree supply of water to the steam laundry be not granted. 3. That Mr. J. F..E. Wright's application to form a now private street, to bo called Joseph-stveet, be granted on the usual conditions. 4. That Mr, Mace’s application to form a new private court or -alley, to bo called Scnrborough-terrace, be granted on the usual conditions. 6. That Abel Smith-street be kerbed as far as Tarauakl-street. 0. That the Town Belt Reserve No. 415, recently taken over by tho Council as a Recreation Reserve, bo fenced In forthwith. 7. That in reference to Mr. H. Mace’s offer to give up immediate possession of Town Belt sections 12 and 13 on certain terms—The Council decline to cancel tho leases of the other sections leased to tho late Mr. Sutherland, tho principle having been already approved in a .previous similar application. That a right of roads through tho Town Belt bo granted, on the proposed lines being first submitted for the opinion of the City Surveyor, and finally approved by tho Council. * The roads to bo formed and fenced at the sole cost of-the applicants. t That the # foregoing concessions be made on condition that immediate possession be given of tho two sections in question. Nos. 12 and 13. 8. That resolution of Council of julg 3.1877 in reference to Town Bolt section No. 59 be rescinded, and that the said section bo reserved for recreation purposes. 9. That the City Solicitor’s bill of costs, amounting to £247 19a. 4d., be- passed for payment. 10. That the formation of Stafford-strcet bo carried out on tho residents paying the cost of same, £IOO. 11. That application be made to Government to reserve tho watershed of the IVaiuuiomafca, amounting to 6200 aores, with the view to the future water supply of the city. 12. That Oottlovillo. terrace bo taken over by tho Council ns a public street, and that It bo formed, kerbed, and channelled, at an estimated cost of £ll4, on tho residents contributing £SO towards the same. ~13. That tho further formation of A dolaide-road bo not proceeded with at present, tho City Surveyor’s estimate of cost of same being £2196. .. '
