SPECIAL TELEGRAM. London, July 22. Earl Beaconsfield has been invested with the Order of the Garter at Osborne. The Australian cricketers are playing against the eleven of the Cambridge University at Lord's. The first innings of the University closed for 285, the highest score being the Hon.; A. Ly Melton's 72. In the first innings the Australians made 111. 0. Bannerman scored 12 ; Murdoch, 47 ; Horan, Spoffortb, and Blackhamall 0 ; Gregory, 5 ; Garrett, 13; Bailey, 5 ; Allen, 12 ; Boyle, 9 ; A. Bannerman, 1 ; byes, &c., 7. The Cambridge bowling was very effective, Morton alone taking seven wickets. The bowling of the Australians was considerably knocked about. The attendance was enormous. The wicket was a splendid one, and the weather was very hot. July 23. The second innings of the Australians closed for 102. C. Bannerman made 26; Horan, 24; Gregory, 1; Garrett, 8 ; Snoffortb, 17 ; Blackham, 13 ; Allan, 6 ; Murdoch, Bailey, Boyle, nil; A. Bannerman (disabled), 0 ; sundries, 7. The Australians were beaten in one innings. July 24. Salisbury is to receive the Garter. The banquet at the Mansion House to Lords Beaconsfield and Salisbury was a great succeßs. The House of Commons will" be invited to make provision for the Duke of Connaught's marriage.
