EDUCATION BOARD.
The following report of tho Finance Committee,was read at a meeting of the Education Board held on June 26 The letters from the Education Department and, other matters referred to the Finance Committee have been duly considered, and the financial arrangements and regulations which their consideration involved nro set forth in the following report1. The committee thus estimate the income and expenditure of the Board for the financial year ending June 30, 1879 ’ INCOME.

STANDARD PRIZES.
The secretary of the Education Board has at his office a number of valuable books for presentation as prizes to those pupils attending the schools in the provincial district who have passed best in Standards 111. and IV. during the years 1875, 1876, and 1877. It had been intended to give medals; but owing to difficulties in getting, them struck off, it has been resolved to present books instead. The pupils who have secured these honors have worked hard for them, the competition being open to all attending the Board’s schools. It has been suggested that the presentation should be made publicly, aud it might be well to a gathering of all pupils on the rolls of the city and suburban schools at some-central place, so that they might see their successful schoolfellows receive their rewards. The following is a list of those who gained highest honors ;
