Some gentlemen in this district have started.: a series of six “ bread-and-butter " dances, to take place every three weeks during the winter months. • The first comes oS to-night, and promises to be a great success, most of the people who were asked to do so having become subscribers. These dauoes are on an economical principle, the subscription for the whole series being only two guineas. Redding having challenged the Palmerston North Football Club, aud there being at that time no such institution, one was at once started. A preliminary meeting was held on Monday last, when about 25 members were entered. A committee was appointed, and it was resolved to accept the Feilding Club’s challenge as soon as a team could be got. into working order. Mr. Piraui was elected hon. secretary and treasurer. . A settler has reported having seen a man s body going down the river on, Monday last. McNeil, Esq, J;P.,who lately sold his land on the Bangitikei line, having bought a place at Marton. Ho will be muot regretted here.
